Nisha Rao is a Pakistani transgender lawyer, advocate, and activist known for breaking significant barriers in Pakistan’s legal and educational systems.  
 
About Nisha Rao
  • First Transgender Lawyer in Pakistan: She became the first transgender person in the country to earn a law degree and practice as a lawyer. 
Education & Early Life:
  • Born in Lahore, Pakistan, she moved to Karachi after leaving her family due to lack of acceptance.  
  • She earned her LL.B. law degree from Sindh Muslim Law College and gained her license to practice law around 2020. 
  • To support her education, Nisha survived by begging on the streets while attending law classes, a powerful example of her determination and resilience.  

Career & Advocacy:

  • Nisha has represented numerous cases in court, especially related to harassment and rights for transgender individuals and women. 
  • She is also an activist for transgender rights and works to inspire others from her community toward education and empowerment. 
Further Milestone:
  • In 2021, she became the first transgender person admitted to the University of Karachi’s MPhil/LLM law program, marking another historic moment for educational inclusion in Pakistan
